  • • To promote peace-building processes.
  • • To support the field presence and activities by fostering cooperation with key stakeholders, partners, non-governmental organisations working in the field of peace-building in order to promote good values.
  • • To develop the competences peace ambassadors in human rights promotion and protection, conflict transformation, peace-building and intercultural dialogue, as well as other specific competences according to the participants’ needs, related to their role as future ambassadors.
  • • To support and give visibility to projects for peace-building in conflict-affected areas and communities.
  • • To enhance the youth ambassadors capacity to take action at a local level in environments affected by previous or ongoing conflicts.
  • • To institutionalize good governance in public systems by building national capacity and leadership.
  • • To increase transparency and accountability in public regulatory and management systems.
  • • To promote individual and institutional integrity in the public sector.
  • • To create and support a peace ambassadors to secure the sustainability.
Organisation Structure

  • IDN is headed by an Executive Director accountable to a five-member Board of Directors. The secretariat consists of staff organized functionally across two main function areas. The first area is programmes. This branch consists of staff dedicated to developing, implementing and monitoring IDN-Kenya programme activities built around the core functions of: Research; Advocacy, Security and National Cohesion.
  • The second branch consists of staff dedicated to institutional management and is built around Administration, Finance and Information Communication Technology (ICT).However, these two teams work in synergy and interface to implement IDN-Kenya mission efficiently and effectively.
  • The Board of Directors is responsible for governance and providing strategic direction to IDN-Kenya. The Management is responsible for running the secretariat and is accountable to the Board through the Executive Director. This relationship is captured by the bold line linking the Board and the Management.
  • In terms of programme management, the Research, Advocacy and Partnerships, Dissemination and Linkages and ICT teams report to the Research Manager, while the Finance and Administration Team report to the Finance and Administration Manager both of who report to the Executive Director. All teams are jointly responsible to the management for the delivery of IDN-Kenya programmes. The thin lines linking various functions indicate a unitary relationship of all teams and not reporting lines.

Board of Directors

  • A five member Board of Directors governs IDN-Kenya; members of the board are Victor Shigoli, Sammy Muchemi, Dr. Carey Francis, Catherine Wangari and Dennis Wendo.
  • The Board sets policy and strategic direction for the Organization and appoints an Executive Director who manages the affairs of IDN-Kenya and provides leadership in implementing directives of the Board and activities of the organization.

Dr. Carey hold the following: BA (philosophy, history, & literature) & MA (philosophy) - Kenyatta University ; Ph. D. in (philosophy), University of Vienna, Austria and a Post- Doctoral Fellowship, Institute of African Studies, Columbia University, New York; He has vast experience in the running and management of NGO’s and heads the IDN-Kenya Advisory Committee.

Wangari Holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree from Masaai Mara University with Professional training in in Accounts (CPA 1 and 2). She is incharge of IDN-Kenya Programs Committee

Wendo Holds a Bachelors of Arts in Business Management degree from Maseno University with professional training in System Analysis and Design. Wendo is in charge of IDN-Kenya Communication and Liaison Committee.
